When making martials, I always prefer builds that don't just move and attack with one option. I like versatility and options in combat. So here's a build with three. Ranged, Melee, and Bombs. Gunslinger Way: We're choosing Vanguard for its melee options and because we like big guns. Weapons: We're going with the Arquebus firearm for it's damage.The musket master swaps out two deeds (gunslinger’s dodge and utility shot) to gain steady aim and fast musket. As long as the gunslinger has 1 grit, steady aim lets him take a move action to extend his firearm’s range increment by 10 feet, letting him target touch Armor Class with his shots a bit farther out than normal.

Also the rest of the archetype doesn't really help a melee gunslinger since it tends to add range you don't typically need. Pistol Phenom gives Pistol Twirl when you take it and it's an overall boon to the kit that's easier to remember to use.
